FLORENCE STOEL
October 24, 1929 – September 26, 2020
Funeral services for Florence Stoel, 90, of Edgerton, Minn., formerly of Chandler, Minn., were held Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chandler Reformed Church. Burial was at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery.
Florence Alvina Stoel was born on October 24, 1929, to John and Gertie (Veldkamp) Kooiman in Murray County, Minn. She attended country school for eight years in Murray County. She lived with her parents on the farm until 1945 when her parents retired and moved to Edgerton.
On September 26, 1950, she married Jacob J. Stoel. While Jake was inducted in the Army, Florence lived with her mother. In June of 1951 Jake and Florence, along with their young son, Jake Jr., moved to Fort Eustis near Newport News, Va., until February of 1953 when they returned to the Lake Wilson, Minn., area and began to farm.
They raised seven children and farmed for 37 years before retiring in 1990 and moved to Chandler, Minn.
Florence was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church and was active in the Reformed Church Women (RCW). She was a gracious hostess and always had bars or cookies handy if anyone stopped in to visit. She enjoyed the Sunday morning coffee with family after church.
In 2010 Florence became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton where she died on September 26, 2020.
Florence is survived by her children, Joanne Klaassen, Sibley, Iowa, Bert Stoel, Leota, Minn., Gene and Kathy Stoel, Lake Wilson, Judy and Mark Bartosh, Dundee, Minn., Ed and Joyce Stoel, Edgerton, and Diane and Dan Hamersma, Pipestone, Minn; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are Florence’s parents; her husband, Jake; son, Jacob A. Stoel, son-in-law, Travis Klaassen; two infant granddaughters, one infant great-granddaughter and four brothers and four sisters.
