Harlan was baptized as an infant and made profession of faith at Bethel CRC in 1977.

In his later years, he was often found playing on the floor with his grandchildren and holding his grandbabies.

Harlan was diagnosed with renal cell cancer in March of 2015 and fought a courageous battle with strength and grace as cancer metastasized to his brain, lungs, and liver. He was under the loving care of Pipestone Home Hospice and his family. Harlan went home to be with Jesus on October 27, 2021, at the age of 66 years, 9 months; and 21 days.
