Funeral services for Debora “Deb” Wentzel, 69, of Lake Wilson, Minn., were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ethanie Schmidt officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson. The organist was Darlene Bose.

The pallbearers were: Dayne Bose, Zachary McFarland, Sheila Scotting, Shannon Reese, Bruce Scotting, and Mike Oliver.

Debora “Deb” Rae Wentzel was born on October 21, 1951, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Lester and Pauline Gottschall Taylor. As a young child she moved with family and lived in several western states before returning to Sioux Falls. Deb attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls.

On October 25, 1969, she and Wesley Wentzel were married at his grandparents’ home in Lake Wilson, Minn. Following their marriage, they made their home in Ihlen, Minn., for a few years before moving to the Lake Wilson area where they raised their three children. Deb worked at the Lake Wilson Café as a cook and waitress for many years.

Wesley passed away on February 2, 1990. Following his death Deb moved back to Sioux Falls, and worked at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, Goodwill, and later for Avera Home Health. In 2016 she retired and moved to Slayton, Minn., and in July 2021 Deb became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She passed away there on Friday October 1, 2021, at the age of 69.

Deb served on the Lake Wilson First Responders and was a member of the Lake Wilson Saddle Club. Deb enjoyed fishing, camping, riding the trails, cooking, gardening, canning, crosswords puzzles, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and board games, old movies, and coffee with family and friends.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Mary Jo and Bryan Bose, Jason and Lori Wentzel and Gordon and Melissa Wentzel all of Lake Wilson; five grandchildren, her mother, Pauline Taylor, seven siblings, Les Jr. Taylor and wife, Jo Ann, John Taylor and his wife, Diane, Jacki Larsen and her husband, Gene, Scott Taylor, Bill Taylor, Gail Fryer, and Tammy Giambra, brother-in-law, Robert Wentzel, several nieces and nephews and their families, and special friend Charlie Mac.

She is preceded in death by her father, Lester Taylor, husband, Wesley Wentzel, four siblings, Linda Taylor, Channon Taylor, Rick Taylor, and Jim Taylor, and one sister-in-law, Mary Wentzel.
