Funeral services for Alvin “Red” Mulder, 89, of Edgerton were held Saturday, Sept. 26, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton with Pastor Brian Kornelis officiating. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton.

Music was provided by organist Linda Vanderaa and special music by Greg Masselink. The congregation sang Great Is Thy Faithfulness and He Leadeth Me.

Pallbearers were Bryce Rieck, Travis Rieck, Chris Carter, Matt Mulder, Josh Mulder, and Noah Mulder.

Honorary pallbearers were Luke Norrgard, Sam Mulder, David Mulder, Adam Brynglson, Kyle Ferrao, Justin Fjeldstad, and Jared Hill.

Alvin Gerald “Red” Mulder was born to Peter and Nina (Schelhaas) Mulder in Edgerton, Minn., where he was raised and attended school. During his education, he spent many mornings delivering milk from his grandfather’s dairy. He later worked for the bakery in Edgerton where he was introduced to Evelyn Sankey, whom he would go on to marry at the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton on June 27, 1952. Red was drafted into the U.S. Army that same year and was stationed in Oklahoma for his training and service. He attended school to become an Army cook in Arkansas. After his honorable discharge, the family returned to Edgerton and purchased their home in town. Red continued to work for the coop oil business in Edgerton for almost 40 years. He also held positions with Brinks and MoorMan’s Feed. He was an active member of the Edgerton Christian School Board and Bethel CRC Church Board. Red was a volunteer firefighter and drove school bus for many years prior to his retirement in his early 60’s. Even following retirement, he stayed busy and could commonly be found helping at his son Arv’s mechanic shop.

He entered the Sanford Luverne Hospital, and following a brief stay, he passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the age of 89 years, two months, and 24 days.

His family will fondly remember many camping trips with Red. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Red had an endearing sense of humor and cheerful nature. He never hesitated to say what was on his mind and framed it in a way that often brought about a smile due to his dry wit. Many in the area will miss him cruising the town on his Cushman three-wheeled truckster.

Red will be remembered by his wife, Evelyn; children, Lori (Barry) Carter of Payson, Ariz., Pat (Dave) Rieck of Edgerton, Arv (Roxie) of Edgerton, Mark (Regina) of Noblesville, Ind., Joy (Andy) Norrgard of Minneapolis, Minn., and Tim (Cindy) of Willmar; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rena Tinklenberg and Robert (Bev); and siblings-in-law, Les (Loreen) Sankey and Arlin Sankey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Rollie, Harriet, Rose, and Sharon; and many other extended relatives.
